Dillon W. Smith Named Director of Engineering at Ballentine Associates, PA


Ballentine Associates, PA is proud to announce that Dillon W. Smith, PE, has been named Director of Engineering. Dillon started with BA in 2014 as an Engineering Intern and quickly became a standout leader within the firm, being promoted to Project Manager in 2018, Engineering Team Leader in 2020, and Director of Engineering in 2023.  Dillon currently leads a very busy and successful engineering team with a diversified workload and client base.

Dillon has over thirteen years of diversified civil engineering and surveying experience, through which he has developed strong design and project management skills.  At Ballentine Associates, Dillon works closely with all members of the design team in developing projects from concept through closeout, with his responsibilities including contracting, workflow scheduling, client and consultant coordination, coordination with government officials, project design, and providing design guidance to his team and others.

Dillon currently serves as Project Manager for multiple projects within Glen Lennox, an iconic 70-acre mixed-use development in Chapel Hill, which includes over 2 million square feet of total floor area.  His contributions have included detailed design work for Phase 1 (Block 7), which included a new intersection on US 15-501, internal public streets, a multi-family building with a clubhouse, parking deck, and office building.  Dillon’s contributions also include master planning assistance and analysis for future phases of the project.

Dillon has successfully managed several charter school projects including Peak Charter Academy, Rolesville Charter Academy, Johnston Charter Academy and Summit Creek Charter Academy and is currently managing three charter schools that are in the design phase.  In addition, Dillon played a significant role in the design of Winterville Charter Academy and was the lead civil engineer on the Gate City Charter Academy project. Dillon is the project manager for several State Employees’ Credit Union branches throughout the state of NC, including Smithfield, Garner, Brier Creek (Raleigh), Henderson, Lumberton, New Bern Ave (Raleigh), Charterwood (Chapel Hill), Clayton, Garner, Shelby, and Wilkesboro. Dillon served as civil engineer for South Green, a 6+ acre mixed-use re-development project in Carrboro, NC, which included a new public roadway and a commercial subdivision for office and retail uses.  The project included major upgrades of utilities and storm drainage facilities in S. Greensboro Street, a large box culvert through the site, and extensive stormwater management facilities.  Dillon performed detailed design work and assisted with obtaining the required permits.
