Monroe Solar Farm

Project overview:

  • At completion, was third largest of Duke’s solar farms in North Carolina
  • 60 MW AC fixed-tilt ground mounted system with approximately 785,000 solar panels over 400 acres
  • Produces enough clean energy to power approximately 12,000 homes annually
  • Construction took approximately 6 months

Services provided:

  • Created construction drawings:
    • Prepared construction drawings detailing access, drainage and soil erosion control
    • 36 sediment basin required for erosion control
    • 2 temporary construction and permanent driveway entrances
    • Jurisdictional impact designs for 2 stream crossings and a wetland crossing
  • Conducted permitting:
    • Land Disturbance Permits, NC DEMLR, Environmental Quality
    • 3 driveway permits (2 permanent permits and one temporary permit), NCDOT
    • Stormwater/TRC Permit-Union County
    • Assisted with 401/404 jurisdictional impact permits, USACE/NCDEQ
  • Provided construction administration:
    • Conducted periodic field visits during construction to ensure compliance with the approved plans
